Naval Air Force Atlantic to get new commanding officer

NORFOLK, Va. — The Navy command responsible for training Naval Air Force Atlantic is getting a new leader.

Rear Adm. John Haley will become Naval Air Force Atlantic’s new commander on Thursday. He will relieve Rear Adm. Troy Shoemaker during a change of command ceremony aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush. The aircraft carrier is in port at Naval Station Norfolk.

Haley most recently served as the director of global operations at U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.

Shoemaker will be promoted to vice admiral and take charge of all naval aviation programs. He will be based at Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, California.
